Hi everyone,
I was wondering if universities consider your age along with your WE as a significant factor when you apply for an MBA. For some context, i'm 24M and will obtain 2 years WE next year(I will start applying to universities only next year, after I complete my GMAT in jan/feb 2023). The average age of the cohort of one of my dream universities is 29, and the minimum WE required to apply for the same university is 2 years. Hence, could the admissions office see this statistic and decide that I am not ready/inexperienced to join their program and reject my application outright? Or, would they give equal importance to other factors in my applications(eg., my extracurriculars, background, interests,etc.)? I also come from a competitive background(Indian).

I would not put too much emphasis on how they will classify your profile in terms of age/work experience so long as you meet the requirements. It appears that you do. Therefore, you won't be outright rejected - it doesn't work that way. The AdCom will take into account your holistic profile which includes quality of your work experience, GMAT/GPA, extracurricular activities /leadership, etc. If they believe you are a high caliber candidate based on all those factors and you meet the requirements, you will be given consideration for a spot.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, 2 years of WE is obviously the minimum number of years to be admitted on a non-deferred basis. Given that the school's average age is 29, it's an indication that they probably value candidates coming with more experience than those with the basic minimum. So, while you won't be outright rejected, you will still have an uphill battle unless you can prove otherwise or have other components to your profile (as noted above) that are so strong they outweigh your lower years of WE.
Perhaps you can pull it off? Without us knowing more about your background, it's hard to adequately advise.

Most top MBA programs expect candidates to have 4-5 years of WE before applying for business school, and the average age of MBA students is around 27-28.
However, if your profile is different it doesn't mean you don't have a chance. You can also consider deferred admissions opportunities that give candidates a guaranteed pathway to the MBA before having extensive career exposure. These top MBA programs at some of the leading business schools (Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Kellogg, Booth...) allow early career candidates and less experienced candidates to apply immediately after their undergraduate degree or at their final year of study. If they are admitted they can defer their enrollment and use the time to gain more work experience, or start their MBA immediately after their undergraduate degree.
