Blew up the section IR 1 (0 percentile)

Took GMAT (online) for the second time now.

Attempt1: 710 (Q50, V37, IR 3, AWA 4)

Started with the IR section. Lost focus mid of the section due to occasional screen lags.

Attempt2 : 750 (Q50, V42, IR 1, AWA 5)

Proctor couldn't start my exam for an hour. The technical team had to pitch in for starting the exam. Panicked the whole time (exam nerves, R2 deadlines)

Started with IR section again. Screen lag throughout the section and huge delay to go to the next question. After the AWA section, I managed to gain my focus back and did quite well. Guessed that I bombed this section but didn't expect a 1.

With R2 deadlines on the corner, I don't think I can go for another attempt. Should I address anything in the optional essay?

Does IR matter much for the T10-T15 schools?

First time I'm hearing of an IR-1 along with a 750 score! Btw, WTG to regroup yourself after that horrible glitch!

Are you sure it's a 'zero' percentile? That seems strange, since it puts you outside the scoring distribution. Have you contacted the GMAC about the issue you faced and the weird IR score? Maybe there is a glitch in the IR section scoring. I have heard of all sorts of crazies regarding the online format of the test.

IR score does not matter for many of the b-schools eg. ISB/IIMs. You need to worry only if your target b-schools look at the IR score.

As you know that R2 deadlines are near, just go ahead with the application process and give your best shot on your strengths.

A: I don't think you should give it another go. Submit both scores. You should definitely describe the IR score on the second attempt in your optional essay. Keep it brief and factual.

Q: Does IR matter much for the T10-T15 schools?

A: Yes, but not a huge amount. I am hopeful that the IR score of 3 should be enough to get you by.

You can also consider retaking the exam while you await results. I don't believe you will be allowed to submit it after the deadlines but you might be able to use a third score if you are on a waitlist for this year or if you need to reapply in another application season.

Sorry for the unfortunate circumstances, but you aren't in a terrible position! Chin up.
