Would it be wise to mention specific professors in essays, or should I just stick to mentioning classes?

I thought it would look good to mention professors, but it may also backfire since there is no guarantee that 1. they will stay there and 2. I will take their class.

Thoughts?

Go ahead!! I mentioned one or two in almost all my apps. But, i made sure that i'd already established contact with the professors earlier. In any case, mentioning them is only going to be an advantage for you. dont worry about those profs staying there but do choose profs who take courses aligned to your thoughts on what you want from your MBA.

They arent going to read your essay with a class schedule in hand and say "Those conflict! He can't take both of those! Deny!!!".

LOL, but conceivably they could think I care more about particular professors than the actual classes. The classes are part of the program, but the professors could almost be considered independent of the program since they could leave at any time.

Sigh....why am I making this so hard. Time to start some coffee...

You just solved your own dilemma. Mention the courses you are interested in along with the Professors name.

As I pointed out in another thread, I am having a slight difficulty with the 500 word limit. I would prefer to mention a few professors or a few classes, but not both since it could take valuable words away from the meat of my essay.

I really don't think it will matter either way as long as the rest of the essay is above average. If they finish reading my essay and think "he said a professor's name instead of the class name", then my essay blows.
