I had originally planned on ending by June 15th - giving me basically two months until the pre-MBA student trip starts - immediately after which they have a pre-mba class, followed by a few days off, followed by school. In rethinking, I'm thinking to leave sometime between July 1st and July 15th - giving me at 4 to 6 weeks off.

I voted 2 months, but I think, that in the end, my "fiscal brain" is going to force me to do more like 1 month - especially when you consider that really, the one week of "trip" is really a nice one week vacation.

Should I include the time I take while on the job? I'm doing almost nothing right now...

Don't think I will want to idle around. Maybe some 2 weeks for preparation & stuff, but no more.

I'm thinking of quitting within the next month or two. I want to use the time to get my CFA level 1.

How long does it take an IT background person to study for CFA?

I'd also like to find some finance related work for a few months... any ideas?

I figure I will need the money on a student budget, so I am working up to the student pre-semester trip, if any. That plus any time it will take to plan the move is all I see myself taking.

I have a pre-existing medical condition... Under Kennedy-Kasenbaum (is that how you spell that second guy's name?), an insurance company has to cover pre-existing if the prior did provided you did not lapse more than 30 days. Therefore I don't want to be without medical insurance for more than 30d.

CFA level 1 is little to do with your background. More how effective you are at storing huge volumes of information.

I know a lot of bank people who fail it. Huge best practice dullness.

Hey guys. I am in a slightly precarious situation and would appreciate any guidance anyone can offer.

I am on the verge of selling my family business and have applied to all my target B-Schools for Round 1. I am confident that I will get into one of the schools in my listing. So I have a couple of options at this point. I can either join a firm and work for the remaining 6 months or so before school starts, or I can take that time off to travel the world and do stuff I always wanted to do but never had the time.

My query is whether a break of 6 months be looked upon in bad light later in job interviews and also if B-Schools really care about what you do in the period between accepting the offer letter and starting classes?

Really looking forward to some inputs. Thanks a lot!!!
