Hello RRbti,

I think it is a great decision to end your GMAT prep journey. It is not worth investing more energy, emotions, and money in the prep if your verbal score is not improving. You have already made significant progress from your first attempt of 600 to your most recent attempt of 690. You can still apply for schools in R2 with your 690 GMAT score and strong profile.

Here are some tips for applying to schools in R2:

Be realistic about your chances of admission. With your 690 GMAT score and your strong profile, you have a good chance of getting into some top schools. However, it is important to be realistic about your chances of admission, as you will be competing against applicants with even stronger profiles.

Target a range of schools. Apply to a mix of schools where you are a competitive applicant, some schools where you are a borderline applicant, and some schools where you are a reach applicant. This will give you the best chance of getting into at least one school.

Write strong applications.
Your essays and letters of recommendation will be important to your application. Make sure you take the time to write strong applications that highlight your strengths and experiences.

Here are some specific schools that you might consider applying to:

UCSD - Rady School of Management: You already have an offer from this school, so it is a safe bet.
Georgetown University - McDonough School of Business: You were waitlisted to this school last year, so it is a possibility.
McCombs School of Business: You were denied from this school last year, but your GMAT score has improved, so you might have a better chance this year.
USC Marshall: You were denied from this school last year, but your GMAT score has improved, so you might have a better chance this year.

In addition to these schools, you might also consider applying to some of the following schools:

Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business: Average GMAT score is 702.
University of Rochester - Simon Business School: Average GMAT score is 706.
Wake Forest University - Babcock Graduate School of Management: Average GMAT score is 703.

We offer a limited number of complimentary profile evaluations each week. We match you with the students and alums of top B-Schools according to your background and target schools. In this call, the experts will try to dig out your USP for top B-schools and provide you with honest feedback on your profile and chances to your target schools.

Feel free to schedule a free profile evaluation call with us to discuss your profile better and give a fair evaluation of your chances of admission to top Business schools.

Hello Gmat Club,

I wanted to take an advice on B-School Applications for R2. This was my 4th attempt (600,610,650,690). I have done everything i could do to increase my verbal score but unfortunately it is not happening. I have decided to conclude my GMAT prep journey now. It will be not fair on me if i keep investing more energy, emotions & money on the prep. I wanted your help to guide me on my next steps. Should i apply for schools in R2. If yes, what should be my target schools as per the GMAT score and my profile. Sharing my profile and entire GMAT journey below: -

In my 3rd attempt (650 - Q50,V28), i thought i will give it a shot in R3 and i applied to 4 schools
1. UCSD - Rady School of Management: I received an admission offer from UCSD with a $65,000 scholarship, but i skipped it.
2. Georgetown University - McDonough School of Business: I received a waitlist decision letter at first then got denial letter
3. McCombs School of Business: I received a denial decision letter.
4. USC Marshall: I received a denial decision letter.

My profile : - I am from India, a male engineer who graduated in 2018 from IIT Delhi. I have a total of 5+ years of experience (age 28) . I have worked with Deloitte, upGrad and few other indian startups some of which are unicorns now. Over the past 5 years of my professional career, I have successfully conceptualized and launched multiple products from 0 to 1 catering to different target-audiences. My invaluable experience and skills in New Product Development, Project Management, Strategy & Operations and most important making data-driven decisions have helped me in becoming a collaborative team leader. I have led expansion of products & services in both domestic & international markets. I am concerned about the placements prospects post my MBA from the schools i will be applying at 690 score. Also i am very keen to start my MBA journey in 2024.

Let me know what are your thoughts.

Hello RRbti,

690 is a decent score, if not stellar and you can expect admits from US top ~35 schools.

We suggest applying to a broader portfolio of schools; you may also want to explore the possibility of applying to European schools as they are less sensitive about the GMAT score.

Hope this helps.

All the best!
