Here are some of the key points you should keep in mind for your LoR:
1. It is always better to have a detailed discussion with your recommender. Brief him/her about your target schools, your long-term and short-term goals and what is clearly expected of the recommender. Do check his/her comfort and if willing to commit some time for this activity for you.
2. As if he/she needs any additional information from you? If so, please provide the same
3. Try not to influence him/her..If you have followed point 1 clearly, you really do not need to do anything.
4. Tell them no need to exaggerate your qualities etc..let it be normal.
5. Tell them to keep an eye on their inbox as well as spam folders, as sometimes the emails do land in spam.
6. Tell them not to wait for the last moment; the best is they spend an hour on the weekend.
