A lot of MBA applicants assume they can realistically apply to only 2–3 schools in Round 1 because each application takes so much time.
But is that always true?If you plan your applications strategically, you may be able to target more schools without compromising quality.
A few things can make a big difference:
• Application length: Some schools have much shorter applications than others.
• Essay overlap: Your career goals, leadership stories, and personal experiences can often be adapted across multiple applications.
• Deadline timing: Not every R1 deadline falls in early September. Some schools give you more time.
• Application requirements: Recommendations, video essays, short answers, and additional materials can significantly change the amount of work involved.
• School selection: Adding a school that genuinely fits your profile is very different from applying just to increase your numbers.
So how do you figure out how many applications you can realistically handle?
