With your profile, I’d target around 675–685+ on the GMAT Focus as a good benchmark, and 695+ would put you in a stronger position. IIMA PGPX’s recent cohort had an average GMAT Focus score of 652, so you don’t necessarily need an extremely high score.
Your BARC experience, Scientist Officer role and M.Tech from HBNI give you a differentiated profile. For ISB, there is no fixed GMAT/GMAT Focus cutoff, so the overall profile matters.
I’d prioritise 680+ and then focus heavily on showcasing your technical work, leadership, research and impact at BARC. For IIMA PGPX, you also meet the 4-year post-graduation work-experience requirement.

- A BARC scientist profile is genuinely rare in ISB and IIMA PGPX pools, which helps, but rarity cuts both ways: admissions committees will look harder for evidence of leadership scope, team ownership, or institutional impact rather than technical accomplishment alone.
- The M.Tech at 71% alongside a 67% B.Tech creates an academic pattern worth addressing; a GMAT Focus score comfortably above the school's typical range, rather than just clearing a threshold, becomes one of the cleaner ways to signal quantitative sharpness that the grades don't fully show.
- PGPX specifically draws applicants with broader organisational exposure, so the two years as a Scientist Officer need to show decisions made, resources managed, or systems influenced, not just research completed.
