I need to understand the meaning of "outsider" in the following question:

Tell us about a situation in which you were an outsider. What did you learn from the experience? (500 words)

Hi,
I think defining "outsider" is actually meant to be one of the challenges that this question poses to the essay writer. I mean no sarcasm in stating that, simply that it is one element of the topic that is open to creative interpretation. You could answer the question by referencing an experience wherein you dealt with new culture, a work group/team with an established praxis, an international experince... basically any situation that challenged you to develop personally and redefine some established idea about "normative" that you brought to the situation.
