Thing is.. this event is happening at my firm. Well, the bar/lounge room at my firm. It's 4 hours after I get off of work

What's business casual? Shirt and nice pants and no tie and jacket?

Ditch the suit - chances are you will be the only one wearing it.

Business casual - Buttoned and collared shirt (neatly pressed, with sharp creases, no ink/food/blood stains), pants (black/blue/ khaki... strict no no for red/white/green or pimp type)

Belts - black/brown to match ur shoes..anything sparkly, dragons, skulls, D&G emblem imprints will not earn u love from corporate.

Socks - black/dark blue - no white unless you want to moonwalk like Michael Jackson

Wear a white vest underneath - I do not do it since I like to flout my chest hair and be the next Sean Connery.

That sums up your casual business dress profile.

Consider bringing a sporty blazer if you want to layer on an extra little "professional" juts in case. If you dont need it, leave it at your desk at work, or just throw it over a chair.

Also: Please tell me what firm you work for. My firm doesn't have it's own bar :)

I am sure that suit thread will be brought back once people start having interviews scheduled.

Funny how I was just going to ask whether to wear a suit to an interview (I haven't gotten one yet, just planning ahead). ;)

Wear a suit...you can always take a jacket and tie off, but you can't add what you don't have.

Do most people in the East Coast wear suits coz its kind of a work requirement? I am asking coz havent seen suits in style in southern Cal. Could be coz of the weather.

most dont. but certain large companies choose to be formal. i worked for a bank in ny a couple summers and they were business formal. they were the exception though. now i work in consulting in the dc area now and i usually wear dress shirt/tie/slacks, but i wear a suit when i have presentation or go on client sites.

I wore a suit to a Wharton event, other than the alumni & Tom Caleel I was the only person in a suit. I don't think it's a bad thing...like lanter said you can always take off the jacket and tie.

A suit might be over-dressing, but it always beats a tee shirt and jeans.

It depends on the event topic.
