My ex-MD (now SVP) joined my company as MD after a 4 - 5 year stint in BCG. He doesn't have an MBA, but he does have a graduate degree in operations.

Strategic planning, corporate development, corporate finance...?

Not sure, but that's what I would guess.

What sort of titles are we talking about. Ideally I would love to be CEO but that's not happening right out of 3-5 yrs of MC.

My guess would be Vice President or Director level titles/roles. Strategic Planning, Corporate Development, Operations, Corporate Finance, etc. all seem to be about in line - really depends on what your background/interests are and what the company has a need for.

You won't become CEO right off the bat, but these are all C-suite track positions depending on the size of the company.

If it's a smaller company, I wouldn't be surprised if you got a title like Chief Operating Officer or President of one of their businesses.

One Ross alum that I know at work did MC for a few years, made 1-level below partner at Deloitte and then joined us as Director of Enterprise Strategy. His boss, who is an SVP is a HBS alum with rougly 15 years exp(she came directly into the industry, not via MC).

Not many MBA`s in my company, but those who do, end up doing some sort of product management/marketing type roles. The technical side stays with the techies. The operational side of the technical side also stays with the techies who went through the Project management and program management paths.

As for Project management roles, all depends on what level it is. We have some really high level project management roles in our place which MBA`s would not get, as they are managing concepts and strategy portfolios.
