Duke for Finance

Question

I just wanted to start a thread to discuss the reputation of the academics and career placements of Duke Fuqua into Finance. Specifically, I'm concerned with their placements into Bulge Bracket Investment Banks in IBD.

I am considering adding Duke to the list of schools I am applying to, and I wanted to see if anyone else who is interested in Finance may have done some research regarding the school?

Hey,

If I were to attend Duke, I would most likely be interested in getting into Corporate Finance/M&A at a Bulge Bracket Investment Bank. I'm most interested in working in San Francisco or Los Angeles upon graduation, but would also consider Chicago, NYC, or London. Healthcare/Tech groups interest me the most, but I would consider other groups as long as the bank and office are reputable. I'm not at all interested in working in the South or at a middle-market bank, and I'm really trying to decipher whether or not a large amount of Duke's investment banking placements tend to be in the South or at the middle-market banks (Wachovia, Piper Jaffray, Bank of America, etc.).

All the i-bankers are know are going to NYC, except for a couple going to Charlotte, and 1 in London. Check out https://www.fuqua.duke.edu/career/recrui ... report.pdf for the employment stuff. I will see if a couple guys I know would be willing to chat with you. I have to say that I think that a lot of the folks at I-banks aren't doing corp fin - they're doing the usual i-banking stuff.

I was wondering something else about Duke - the average age and average years of work experience are fairly high. Do many of your classmates have 2-3 years of experience? Is Duke averse to admitting applicants with 2-3 years of experience?

I too have the same question about DUke's rep for Finance. I'm also looking into IB short-term wtih interest in M&A. My long term is corp dev/strategy. How well does Duke place students in the finance sector?
