It was 50/50 between joke and seriousnous. Take the word alas, I don't think I've ever heard somebody say it when they are speaking. Yet it makes its way into many many essays. Just wondering what other words out there people use to make them sound like a better writer or catch the adcom's eye. I bring up passion because bschools like passionate people, so you have to say you're passionate about something, besides increasing your salary.

Keep in mind this is more for fun than real advice. I know the standard essay advice, I got the books. Just wondering what buzz words people are using to make them sound intelligent/interesting/funny/etc...

I used the word "poopy" in an essay. Bad idea?
