Entrepreneur applicants

Question

Some people have stated that schools love 'non traditional' applicants that have started their own companies, taken risks,showed leadership initiatives,experienced failures, etc. However, several others (including Sandy) have said that schools are weary of pure entrepreneurs because they lack a Blue chip background/pedigree, are burn outs throwing in their towel, and frankly they dont have much use for an MBA .

So what do schools truly think of entrepreneurs that have had little to no Big Brand Names on their resumes? Will they be afraid to accept them because they fear they are unmarketable, or will they be happy to have a well diversified class where entrepreneurs can share their valuable experience with others?

Booth is a great school for entrepreneurs (look at my link in signature). They have Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and are very supportive. Do you know what classes cost (I mean points you need to spend to get them) the most at Booth? Entrepreneurial courses! I know many of entrepreneurs here and they are far away from "a Blue chip background/pedigree" including me

thank you for your inspirational post, i was thinking that my application was doomed before I even began. Is it possible without revealing personal info to tell me some of the backgrounds/business types of the entrepreneurs that you have met at Booth?

I have gone through several resume books from Tuck, Darden, and Wharton without finding many entrepreneur profiles.

I think the best way is to browse NVC pages: https://research.chicagobooth.edu/nvc/ You can find a lot of information about NVC (New Venture Challenge) and winners. If you are looking for something common... Every person here has something interesting behind him or her, if you have something interesting to tell about yourself, it would be your strong side. At the same time, all people here are very different and it is great! So, no specific background but great stories. By the way, I can't tell you about IB or IM , but about Entrepreneurship - a lot
