Hello,
I'm applying at Colorado State University for their MBA program, and 3 letters of recommendation are required. I've gotten 2 so far, but when I asked my previous supervisor (since she could verify that I've been in the financial industry for over 8 years) she stated in her email to me that they are not allowed to fill out letters of recommendations because it is "against the rules." I'll go ahead and ask someone else, but I'm just wondering why a company would not allow employees to fill out letters of recommendations for school. There weren't any issues when I left that company, (Wells Fargo). I wasn't a bad employee there with bad performance or attendance. What's the deal?
Is it alright if I ask fellow colleagues for a letter of recommendation? Or previous professors - even though I haven't seen them for 4 years? (My current managers have provided the other 2 recommendations for me already).
Any help and advice is appreciated!

My organization has the same type of rule but it's actually just for recommending someone to internal jobs. I knew my supervisor was going to be a total ruleboy about it and take the absolute narrowest interpretation because that's his general MO (this is someone who grossly misinterpreted regulations to stop non-prohibited fundraising for black history month). I asked my mentor-my colleague who was officially assigned to train me up when I first joined my org. We still get staffed on very difficult projects together and he's first chair, I'm second (for lack of better verbiage) so we're still in a sort senior-junior relationship though I do a good deal of my work independently of him. I made our relationship very clear on the application so it didn't look like I asked someone who was just a friend. This is someone the supervisor of my department asks for input in my yearly ratings.
Fortunately I have a second (completely unpaid) job and my direct supervisor for that one wrote me a rec, otherwise I would have been hosed.
