Many parents today are not sure whether the problems of their child are the result of what they inherited or learnt from their parents or of pressure and patterns of the society. Child rearing has never been an easy assignment and today it is harder than ever. The world seems to be spinning faster; a storm of new knowledge comes crashing in. We are growing up under much different circumstances than our parents experienced.
My generation faces more competition, more powerful peer group pressures and immense emotional stress. This means that good parents are needed more than ever, it means that building lives takes time, tolerance, patience, faith, self-sacrifice, love and work, but nothing is more rewarding than watching a child move into maturity and independence. In sensing the large task of rearing children the parents may be immobilized by fear or empowered by faith. They are told by psychologists, study, commonsense and by understanding of themselves that each child has certain basic needs, if these needs are not met early, the child will be disturbed and seek fulfillment in wrong and many times hurtful ways.
Therefore as a parent provide your child with the six basic needs i.e. significance, security, acceptance, love, praise, discipline.
Example: Once a child asked her Mom / Dad will she ever leave her purse full of money and gold with the maid?
Mom replied, No!!
The child then innocently asked why do you leave me with the maid for the whole day?
