Hi all!
My question is not about studying in business school, it's kind of different. However, I think it belongs to this section.
I was invited to the Simon School of business and I want to hear your opinions whether I should go there or not.
I was participating in the online course "Power of Markets" taught by Mark Zupan - the Dean of Simon School of business on coursera
It was a 12 week online course and it was promised that 100 participants with the highest scores will be invited to Simon School of Business for a series of in-person group review sessions with Dean Mark Zupan in preparation for an in-person final exam on the course.
Turns out, I am among the 100 of people who got their invitations.
Also, if I score at a sufficiently high level on the in-person final exam, I will be offered an application fee waiver ($150 value), if I choose to apply for admission to one of Simon’s graduate degree programs.
Now, I have some doubts about this trip.
On the one hand, it sounds like a great opportunity to meet the Dean, professors and other people who scored the highest in the course.
On the other hand, it's gonna cost me about $2,000 since I live overseas. The reimbursement given from the Simon School is limited to $250 so it won't help a lot.
Also, no one promised me anything like getting an offer from the School or something else.
Now I'm thinking if it's worth spending $2,000 on that trip. To be honest, I'm expecting something else from this invitation. It's just... I will fly through the whole Europe and through the Atlantic Ocean just to do the final exam, to get my application fee waiver and that's it? And a lot of other participants think the same because people from all over the world got invited and they will have to spend even more money and time than me.
Since I'm very interested in applying and studying towards my MBA degree and I'm trying to study for the GMAT exam, which I currently suck on (530 actual test in winter and 590 GmatPrep now), I really don't want to lose an opportunity if there is any. However, if there is none on this trip, I'd better spend $2,000 on a good GMAT tutor.
If you, guys, have ever encountered this kind of dilemma, can you give me some advice?
