When do MBA students interview?

When do MBA students interview? Is it during the fall of the first year, before grades even come out?

they interview all over the place. First year, for the summer jobs, 2nd year for the full timer. B-school is a lllllllooooonnnnnngggggg selection exercise.

There will always be some level of recruiting, but the big wave is usually right after everyone comes back from winter break.

That said, if you are interested in IB, those interviews start as early as September.

UW's business connection center puts admitted students in touch with companies before they even matriculate. Theoretically, an admitted student can interview even  before  starting in the fall.

The typical schedule is for first year students to interview in the spring, while second year students interview in the fall as soon as they return to campus.

The reality is that in order for first year students to get interviews, they must start networking almost as soon as they get on campus by attending info sessions, cocktail hours and things like that. Several of the schools I'm looking at have tried to limit how soon recruiters can start meeting with first years, because the schools would like new students to get acclimated to their new learning environments before starting this new task. Many big companies, especially the ibanks, tend to have joint first and second year info sessions to get around this rule.

I read a recent article where competition at Wharton was so fierce for recruits that some banks were visiting 15+ times in the fall. Last year, the school began limiting recruiters to 3 visits, to ease the burden on students for attending so many events.

It does look like a good year for recruitment. A INSEAD student I conversed it has 6 offers... dang, how about that person send 1 my way ;)

What percentage of the time does the student end up working for the employer he/she interned with? Does that necessarily have to be the case, especially with career switchers?
