Hey Fluff, are you in Seattle now? That's amazing that another GMATTClubber is attending UW  because we're such a small school.

Yeah, I just registered to attend NHSMBA, but haven't paid the fees because I heard something about getting a discount if we do it through the BCC. Going to shop around for flights and hotel accomodation later today.

PM me your NetID and let's get in contact before Jump Start begins.

Looks like the interview booths are the places to be to (hopefully) lock in that 08' internship. Problem is, UW is only letting us have Friday off, and apparently no flights depart SeaTac for Houston after 2pm. This may entail sacraficing one lecture day and/or group project committments to get over there by Friday morning.

NBMBA is another huge event on par with NSHMBA. I believe this year's event is in Orlando for those interested.

Yeah, my friend in Arizona just emailed me about that conference. It's at the end September, a week before NHSMBA.

Two weeks after school begins and I'll already be applying for an intern. Wow, do things move fast.

From what I hear, its one of the largest career fairs of the year and, of course, you don't have to be hispanic to attend.

Location: Houston
Date: October 5th and 6th

Anybody going?

I will definitely be there. Rice is the sole underwriter for the conference. I know that a large amount of students that attended last year received their internships from this conference. Make sure to drop your resume via online postings prior to the career expo if possible. Also, we will have to meet up and I can show you around the city when you guys arrive.

The impression I got from my career advisor last week was that firms won't be making too many offers to first year MBA students right off the bat. It's more like a chance to start the networking game wih future employers, exchange business cards, open lines of correspondance, etc. Most formal offers aren't extended until early 2008. Then again, there are always exceptions.

I'm currently on the "blackout period". At HBS 1st years can't access any career search data (not even the job bank) nor interview or meet with any company until late October. This blackout period is supposed to allow students to get into studying rhythm before starting with recruiting. I think it's a nice idea, although it also means I'm left out of what's going on until then.

I will keep the evenings open when you are in town. Just PM when you get here. Same goes for anyone else who is coming to H town for NSHMBA. Also, most students did not hear anything from their interviews they had set up for this career expo until Feb/Mar, so not much in terms of formal offers will happen there. But a good fraction of our student body "found" internships through NSHMBA last year.

Lepium,

I'll trade you your spot in HBS for my spot at Rice so you can attend NSHMBA. The only thing is you cannot have your spot back after the career expo is over

People at HBS could wait until March of their 2nd year to begin job hunting and still come away with an offer by May:)

I just got back from NBMBAA and it was great. Had a number of interviews with really cool companies. Would be awesome to have an internship offer in September, but have to wait and see what the outcome will be..

If they want a Hedge Fund or a PE house they will probably have to wait till then anyhow.
