Yes it does play a role however small. You can get a high GMAT and avoid such a scenario.

Thanks for your questions! Certainly there are people in top MBA programs at 31. It is not the majority- but there are people in the class at that age. As far as the intricacies of the GMAT test itself- I suggest you ask on the GMAT test part of this forum. I would not worry about converting your gpa- schools all have their own ways of looking at international grades. They want to see the actual transcript and they take it from there. If you think the grading scale at your school was very difficult- you could emphasize your class rank which may give a better idea of how you performed within your class.
