Hi all.
I am amid a late-20s career crisis. I am thinking about switching careers to marketing and wish to obtain my MBA in Marketing. I want to do more branding/brand management. I need advice badly. below are my basic career highlights.
Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design (2.7GPA unfortunately worked full time the whole way through. My GPA definitely suffered.)
5+ years working as a graphic designer. I've always worked supporting the marketing dept. (developed ad campaigns, web campaigns, collateral, branding etc.) I did help launch a new product line at one of my jobs.
So I know my GPA is terrible. I am aiming to get the best GMAT score to offset the GPA. I am not looking to apply to any ivy league schools. State school would be my goal.
My basic question is what would my chances, should I get a great score, to get into a MBA program?

What state school? For example, some of the state schools around me simply have an equation where they take GMAT + 3*GPA and if it equals a certain number you get in. I have a 3.6 and the GMAT i would have needed was like a 470 LOL.
You have 5 years WE in a probably not especially saturated background. You could probably get into a nice school with a good GMAT.
In the optional essay, make sure you explain that you worked full time and say that your high GMAT score is a better indication of your ability and it will be likely explained away at most even very good schools.
