I am completing my mba at a school without a gmat requirement (ncu). I was considering a mls next due to my volunteer experience as a paralegal, but i decided that there are more opportunities in business. Now i am considering a phd/dba or hanging up the chalk for a while.
Before i started my mba i was warned that it would be worthless, or even harmful, for an applicant without experience. I was surprised to find that this advice is mistaken even for students at online schools like me. During my time in my mba program i have worked for 3 months as a shift supervisor, 4 months as a test scorer, and 3 months as a tutor and paralegal assistant. This was after going years with no opportunities at all. However, i still have basically no experience and now I am faced with the same question. Is a phd/dba worth it if you dont have experience? Is a phd/dba worth it if you dont end up teaching? Also, is the dissertation impossible to do if you aren't currently employed, or is it all research based?
