-Seeking Expertise & Wisdom from PROs-
Need your advice more than most in my life; a little bit of your valuable moment can help in my decision making process to take the next step in my career. Pleasure to have your precious time.
I am a business professional-expertise in business development, partnership & strategy for 12 years in Telecom and mostly in Fintech domain (Mobile Financial services & Digital payment) in Bangladesh. I have been possessing leadership roles for last 8 years of my total 12 years career span, where I headed multiple business departments including product, strategy & business development.
#Objective/Expected Accomplishment#
At this stage of my career I would like to explore my career in international space (no regional preference- wherever my expertise matches suitably- Asia, Europe or US). Since I have expertise in digital payment- I believe getting into digital payment sector internationally may comparatively feasible. However, I am open to explore in any sectors where I get the edge based on my current profile. The bottom line is -I would like to land a profound international career within couple of years. Not getting you biased or restricting of being open- just sharing a few probable employers list that I prefer or my profile suits. However, I am absolutely okay to land somewhere else in any other reputed places.

What would be my action plan to land an international job as per my above mentioned objective? Now, let me bounce you guys my plan (still not sure whether that would pay-off or not- that’s why I am bouncing you guys). Do you think an EMBA (since I have 12 years+ exp, regular MBA may not be worthy for me) can be the bridge to fulfill my objective of landing an international job from an orthodox local career? It is to be mentioned that I will not get sponsorship from my employer, hence I have to fund the EMBA on my own. Therefore, would the ROI be feasible?

If the answer for the above question is NO- I would love to hear your suggestion. If it is Yes- then please suggest how do I choose the biz school? Do I have to filter biz school as per my expertise (dig payment or Fintech) or do I have to target the region where I can get better edge? It’s obvious the classmates with whom I will share my EMBA, currently positioned in leadership role in similar industry/domain may help to enter there. However, in this case it’s not a sure-shot thing- e.g. I have seen class profile of a recent session of a reputed EMBA (INSEAD) – where there is not a single participant from digital payment or Fintech industry. I have also listing some biz school here from different regions; then again please don’t get biased on those. Share me your absolute suggestion to help me choosing an EMBA program & Region/country, from where I can fulfill my objective of landing a profound int. job.

I think you could possibly do a full-time program in Europe where they are more open to older applicants. Sorry to call you older
. However since you’re not moving industries and I have quite a bit of experience, an EMBA may indeed be more fitting.
Several potential issues with ember is that it’s expensive, more expensive than full-time program and often is pretty light in terms of recruiting and employment assistance. I’m sure the courier services would be glad to help with anything but their resources will be limited in most cases.... leaving you to network and find a job on your own. This is because the class is so diverse and also because many will be staying in their regular jobs.
Second question is the work permit. I would check and make sure that you get a work permit after you graduate. I feel this would be the biggest value add from the program.
At the same time, I am not convinced you must get an EMBA. I don’t know what options you have to jump into it in an international career especially with the pandemic going on but if you have avenues and options to recruit outside of your home country, that could get you there potentially a lot cheaper. Of course a prestigious MBA would give you a lot more legitimacy and combined with a local work permit opportunity to recruit....
Last of the selection, I would look at the country where most of your employers are based out of and pursue that location. It’s great that you’ve identified perspective opportunities already. I would also consider where you would like to be in the long term.
