Hi Murthy,

Many GMATers face some type of pacing issue in the Quant, the Verbal or both - so you're not alone. From what you describe, you are spending too much time on your RC prompts, but this issue might also be impacting your overall performance in other ways - and properly dealing with RC is a bit different from properly dealing with other question types. To start, while it certainly helps to understand everything you read in an RC passage, that level of comprehension is typically NOT required to correctly answer the questions that come with each prompt. In some cases, the prompts are really technical in nature (such as certain types of science passages) - and when that type of complexity is there, the real goal is to understand the 'structure' of the prompt ("WHY is each sentence/paragraph a part of the overall prompt?" and NOT "what does everything mean exactly?"). That does NOT mean that you should 'skim' any prompts; you should still do your best to actively read and take notes (but you have to be prepared to accept that you might not understand every word/idea that's presented - and not waste valuable time trying to do so). Thankfully, RC questions are almost never about understanding complex concepts.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
