I would go with E;
A – Not parallel - combining should be matched with a rhyming leading rather than “to lead” or it should be “a personal history combining with his love for adventure that led” in order to serve as an absolute modifier. Thirdly, a past participle “combined with” will be a better fit than the present participle” combining with”
