Parents’ disagreements on how to discipline their child, has made problems for teachers as they are teaching such spoiled students.

(A) has made problems for teachers as they are teaching such
(B) has made problems for teachers teaching such
(C) has made problems for teachers as they are teaching
(D) have made it problematic for teachers to teach such
(E) have made it problematic for teachers as they are teaching such

MANHATTAN REVIEW OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

The first thing you should look at here is subject/verb agreement. Is the subject in this sentence singular or plural? The word ‘disagreements’ is plural, so you should use the verb “have”. Note how the GMAT tries to trick you by putting the word ‘child’, which is singular, next to a verb that should be plural. That eliminates choices A, B and C. Choice E is wordy and inefficient. Choice D is the correct answer.

If you see, the subject referred is "Parent's disagreements" which is Plural
So we take HAVE (option D and E)

Among Option D and E,
'They' is Pronoun ambiguous
And we eliminate E as a result.

D is the Answer.

(E) have made it problematic for teachers as they are teaching such --> Pronoun ambiguity

Hence, D.

Hey Sudarshan,

I can see only one antecedent 'teachers' for pronoun 'they'. Could you please elaborate where there is pronoun ambiguity? Just want to correct myself if I've missed something. Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Thank you for your reply Sudharshan!! I may be overthinking here, but isn't 'they' a person pronoun? If the sentence was referring to 'disagreements', shouldn't 'those' be used? Pardon me for bombarding with doubts!

Cheers!
