No less an expert than John H. McWhorter has claimed that African-American children do poorly in schools because of implicit social pressure to fail academically.

(A) No less an expert than

(B) Not less an expert

(C) Not less expert

(D) Not less an expert than

(E) An expert not less than

The intended meaning of the sentence imo is --somebody who is as good an expert as John H. McWhorter has claimed ......
A imo conveys that meaning .

B on the other hand says John H. McWhorter has claimed..... , but the modifier looks awkward with a Not instead of No

A for me .

Help me out here guys !!

I agree with you!
The intended meaning should be that an expert who is as good as John McWhorter has claimed...
So, B and C are out.
Out of A, D and E, I will chose A, idiomatically correct.
