In this year's negotiations, unionized workers will be fighting to improve job security in many industries, but will be seeking large wage increases in some others, as in the prospering telecommunications industry.


A. as in the prospering telecommunications industry --> correct

B. such industries like telecommunications, which is prospering

C. as in that of the prospering telecommunications industry

D. as is the prospering telecommunications industry

E. as in an industry like telecommunications, which is prospering

I don’t understand why it’s “as in” the telecom industry. It’s not a comparison, it’s an example. It would be as if we were say that workers in the oil and gas industry, as are those in the telecom industry, are asking for raises. I agree with the above that it should be “such as” because it’s an example from a category.

There may be other ways we can use as in, but in this case, it seems similar to ~for example.
1. X will be seeking Y in {some industries}, as in {this industry}.

This is like saying (2):
2. X will be seeking Y in {some industries}; for example, X will be seeking Y in {this industry}.

That said, although I use as in quite often to provide specific examples of something, I haven't really thought about it. It'd be good to get more opinions on this.

To answer your query, we concur with AjiteshArun, in Option A, the phrase "as in" seems to be used to introduce an example.
