Idiom: Unlike X, Y
X = a farmer or farmers
Y = an engineer or engineers
Unlike is a preposition in this construction that must be followed by a noun, noun phrase, or pronoun. ("Unlike" can be an adjective. Not in this case.)
X and Y must be parallel.
Split #1 correct articles are required before a singular noun
(A) and (B) should use "a" farmer.
(B) should use "AN" engineer
Eliminate A and B
Split #2 nouns that are compared must be parallel (Unlike X, Y)
-- Option A (already eliminated) and D compare non-parallel nouns
The nouns should be either both singular or both plural
Wrong: A farmer <-> engineers
