What is the subject of the word "its" in option E? 
The sentence uses the word "organizations" so it should be "their" and not "its".

This was the reason i eliminated option E.

Please suggest.

I can't see much import between the near-certain 'will' and the not so - certain 'would' in this context. So E is passable.

We can pretty much tell what the sentence is trying to say, but there's probably a better way to write it. "Are given to understanding via advertising" is pretty clunky. 
Choice (B) doesn't make sense: it is missing the word "attendees," so the verb phrase doesn't connect to anything. 
The same issue is present in (C) and (D), so we can eliminate those. Left with (E), we can verify that it is indeed better than (A). The past tense in "have been given" makes more sense than the present tense "are given" in choice (A): before the event, the attendees were given reason to believe there would be food. Also, "given to understand" is idiomatically correct, whereas "given to understanding" is not. " rom an advertisement" is also stylistically better than "via advertising."

The correct answer is Choice (E).
