What is compared? Dolphins with other creatures. In order for the comparison to be clear, the objects of the comparison should be as close as possible.
Modifier - commonly known as the echolocation method
What is it modifying? The action of recognizing sound as frequency waves.
Again for the modifier to be effective, it should be placed closer to the root phrase.
Option Elimination

"commonly known as the echolocation method" is modifying other creatures. Therefore intended meaning not conveyed.

Incorrect comparison - competently is an adverb which is not modifying a verb, adjective or clause.
