VERITAS PREP OFFICIAL SOLUTION:
This problem features some fairly well-hidden decision points that are easy to overlook. While the choice between “will” and “would” is easy to notice, it is very subtle and difficult to assess. Look elsewhere for a more concrete error: the use of “not only/but also” will demand strict parallelism. Since the rules for parallelism in the common constructions are strict and easy to assess, start there: in (A), (B), and (C) the “not only ON the physician’s side but also the (ON MISSING) patient’s side” lacks parallelism and is incorrect. (D) and (E) fix that problem but (E) contains the word “both” while (D) does not. It is redundant so say: “both this, as well as this.” It is either “this, as well as this,” “both this and this,” or just “this and this”. Since (E) contains the redundant structure “both this…as well as this,” it is incorrect and the correct answer is (D).

Straight up Options B & D are out due to usage of Modal Auxilary 'would' along with 'very likely', which contradicts 'would'.
Choice A distorts parallelism in correlative conjunctions not only....but also, by using prepositional phrase ( on the physician's side ) & possessive noun phrase ( the patient's side ). Choice B repeats that error.
Similarly in choice E, the continuity of correlative conjunction 'both... and' is broken, making it even worse.
Choice D overcomes all the impediments and conquers all.
