IMO A,
The question trying to compare the usage of like/as/to be.
Let's break it down, Here Green Manure is a role played by Soya Beans. Hence the proper usage is as
Rani is appointed as a Captain.
Here we are not comparing Rani to Captain. But instead, Rani played the role of Captain.
Hence I eliminated b,c,d

Contrast is missing, So A is better than E

B and C are out straightaway for the use of 'like' which is inappropriate in this sentence.
D also cancels out because it can't be used 'to be' green manure, usage of 'as' is much more clearer.
Now from A and E, only A explains the apparent discrepancy between 'yellow' and 'green'. E doesn't explain the contrast.
So its A.
