Matthew Barney is one of the contemporary "artists" (we are talking about the artists like Matthew and artists are plural)
Hence,
Eliminate A and B.
Brett Whitely is a singular noun.
We can eliminate C.
While in E is wrong, as no timeline is suggested.
D is more appropriate.
