The "it" in the underlined portion jumps out immediately. A quick look at the non-underlined portion shows that the only singular noun that "it" can refer to is "the term schizophrenic".
So now we have " ... While in common parlance the term schizophrenic ... "
The term schizophrenic isn't someone (eliminate AC) but is used to refer to someone who exhibits certain traits, making option B correct.
Option B also seems structurally the most sound. "In the mental health field, the term schizophrenic applies to X while in common parlance the term schizophrenic refers to Y"
Hence, B.
