Could somebody please confirm whether the right answer is option A. I see that Option C is already stated in the argument.

The OA is A. Conclusion is follow up x-ray is a drain on financial resources.

A is the only option which strengthens the conclusion.

This a classic Gmat critical reasoning question.

Look at the premise, "To allay fears whether they had misjudged the fractures even in patients with stable femur injuries, and thus do not require surgery, orthopedic surgeon" -- this means the xray is actually prescribed to everyone.

Now take a look at the conclusion : "Thus ordering follow-up x-rays of femur fractures initially judged to be stable, is a drain on financial resources."

Thus the flaw here is, other types of fractures of femur must show similar trend as well for this to be true.

If you read carelessly, you are more likely to pick A since it supports the survey. But C best fits in as it negates the problem in the argument.

I came across a similar question earlier:

the answer for this one is different.

Here we dont have an option but to select C cause others are irrelevant. Our goal is to choose the best possible answer, in this case we have 2 which might strengthen. In the one you cited, you have no other option than to go we the survey strengthening option. If you compare choices, answer here is actually better as it caters to the argument. This question here is more likely to be an LSAT question than a GMAT one. Needless to say you won't encounter such scenarios in real GMAT where only one answer is correct most of the times.

Choice here doesnt exist there, which is "X-Rays of many femur injuries for which an initial x-ray is ordered, reveal no signs of any fracture of the femur".

(A) Doctors who are general practitioners rather than orthopedists are less likely than orthopedists to judge the stability of an ankle fracture correctly.

(B) Many ankle injuries for which an initial x-ray is ordered are revealed by the x-ray not to involve any fracture of the ankle.

(C) X-rays of patients of many different orthopedists working in several hospitals were reviewed.

(D) The healing of ankle fractures that have been surgically repaired is always checked by means of a follow-up x-ray.

(E) Orthopedists routinely order follow-up x-rays for fractures of bone other than ankle bones.
