Hi sagarikadutta24, gvij2017

I will try to explain D over C.
C is stated as below:

C) Older students are more likely than younger students to believe that there are better indicators of their academic performance than the grades they earn in class.

So IMO, C is saying older students don't think academics as best indicators and they think there are better available.
but it does not clarify why do they react to grades negatively..does it?

(D) Older students believe that their teachers’ praise will inspire the disapproval of their peers, to which they have a greater aversion than do younger students.
---this makes me think about school days, when praise from teachers/grades led to standing out from crowd.
and that makes you superior from peers. sometimes peers don't like this and disapprove this. so older students hate it and act negatively just to avoid disapproval from their peers. while younger student don't act this way.
this choice perfectly explains negative reaction from older students.
Hence it is preferred choice over C.

Hope this helps!!

Regards,
Manasvee.
