I wouldn't beat yourself up on this question - I don't find it a good approximation of a GMAT question. It's trying to be a paradox question, but the situation presented is not actually paradoxical/surprising. In the situation, we only had expectations for changes in the price of digital cameras; there is nothing surprising about the fact that conventional camera prices haven't changed.

Both B and C would explain the outcome. C uses the logic already described in the problem (innovation leads to lower costs, so no innovation means no lower costs) while B introduces a different reason for the outcome. Perhaps the question writer wants us to assume that the 'innovation leads to lower costs' trend does not apply to older technology that is already efficient.

In any case, strongly prefer official material when you are preparing for GMAT Verbal. It's a much better use of your time to learn from the logic and structures presented in real GMAT questions.

Here's a key line from the passage:

despite the market gradually leaning towards digital cameras

We see that the market was "leaning toward digital cameras," meaning that demand for regular cameras decreased.

Now here's (E):

  E) Many consumers were not technologically savvy and still preferred the old-school regular cameras

Notice that (E) does not explain why the price of regular cameras remained the same "despite the market ... leaning toward digital cameras."

After, regardless of what (E) says about "many consumers," overall, the market did not prefer regular cameras.

So, (E) doesn't materially change what we know about the market. It just qualifies it, leaving in place basically the same scenario we already had, in which demand for regular cameras decreased but the price did not.
