The TV documentary showed that in a country pressed for food, the elephant is a pest. There appears to be no way to protect East African farms from these elephants. So, East Africa is must be facing food shortage and elephants are making the situation worse.

(A) the preservation of wildlife may endanger human welfare - Yes. This must be true given the information in the stimuli. A is the answer.

(B) it is time to remove elephants from the list of endangered species - Passage is not saying removal of elephants from endangered species list.

(C) television documentaries are incapable of doing more than reiterating accepted pieties - Not really. TV documentaries maybe a powerful tool to inspire change in the society.

(D) farmers and agricultural agents should work closely with wildlife conservationists before taking measures to control elephants - this is exaggerated option.

(E) it is unfair that people in any country should have to endure food shortages - Fairness of something is not discussed at all.

I bolded the key to solving this question. If there is no way to protect the farms, then keeping the elephants around pretty much ensures that the farms will be foraged by the elephants. Consequently, issues with food shortages will be exacerbated. A) says just that

-this is tempting, I just don't think there's enough substance in the passage to arrive at this conclusion. A is stronger all things considered.

This is a tough one. 
I was able to eliminate options other than A and D. 
Then, It took me some time to decide. 
A is the right answer because- 
1. Clearly this example illustrates that______. This means we have to make a conclusion. The conclusion is based on what ?
a. The documentary showed something beyond “save the wildlife” message. 
i. This means it could have either shown- Don’t save the wildlife OR saving the wildlife is not enough. 
b. Elephant is a “pest” because it damages crops in the night. 
2. I notice the words- “Voracious”, “night raiding”, “Country is pressed for food at the same time Elephant is a pest”. 
So referring to 1(a)(i), he probably does not want to conclude that “Saving the wildlife is not enough”. He wants to say that “Don’t focus only on saving the wildlife “. Already there seems to be no way to protect the farms from elephants. Preservation may make things worse

Option(D) was the closest competitor. But it seems to be more of a “Way forward” rather than the blank which completes and “illustrates/shows”– “Clearly this example illustrates that_____”

I eliminated A because the fact that elephants kill farms can not be extrapolated to entire wildlife that wildlife possess a danger to human welfare

it might be that only elephant is the problem causing animal from entire wild life because in general answers which generalise a specific thing are almost never correct in CR questions
