(B) The law forbids certain experiments on humans but permits them on animals.
clarifies the action by psychologists

(C) It is generally less expensive to perform experiments on animals than it is to perform them on humans.
somewhat clarifies the practice, though cost is not mentioned in the passage, it can very well be a reason to understand personalities of animals, humans are just more costly to study

(D) Proper understanding of human personality is thought to provide a model for better understanding the personality of animals.
This goes the other way. understanding of human personality sets the tone to understand the animal personality but psychologists are doing it other way round

(E) Field observations of the behavior of young animals often inspire insightful hypotheses about human personality development.
clarifies the action by psychologists

Goal: To acquire a better understanding of the structure and development of the human personality.


(D) Proper understanding of human personality is thought to provide a model for better understanding the personality of animals.

Option D talks about a motive which is absolutely opposite of the goal of the argument.

All the other options support the claim that the animal models can be used for understanding the human behavior except D
