A classic example of confusing NECESSITY with SUFFICIENCY..!!

"All effective administrators are concerned about the welfare of their employees, and all administrators who are concerned about the welfare of their employees are liberal in granting time off for personal needs; therefore, all administrators who are not liberal in granting time off for their employees’ personal needs are not effective administrators."

Analysis of the Stimulus -->

EA (Effective Administrators) -> Welfare oriented -> Liberal (in granting time-off)

By reverse logic, we get

NOT Liberal (in granting time-off) -> NOT welfare oriented -> NOT an EA (Effective Administrator)

Please understand here that NOT being liberal (in granting time-off) is not a ncessary criterion for being branded an Ineffective Administrator (ie, MOT EA) since there may be other causes contributing to categorisation as an Ineffective Administrator...

If the argument above is valid, then it must be true thatt

(A) no ineffective administrators are liberal in granting time off for their employees’ personal needs
A paricular administrator, despite being liberal, may be Ineffective due to other reasons say, misgovernance, corruption etc..hence INCORRECT

(B) no ineffective administrators are concerned about the welfare of their employees
Using similar logic, a paricular administrator, despite being welfare-oriented may be Ineffective due to other reasons say, misgovernance, corruption etc..so INCORRECT

(C) some effective administrators are not liberal in granting time off for their employees’ personal needs
Since being liberal is a NECESSARY criterion for being an Effective administrator, this option can't be true..so an INCORRECT option

(D) all effective administrators are liberal in granting time off for their employees’ personal needs
As per analysis of the stimulus (as explained above)..being liberal is a NECESSARY criterion for being an Effective administrator, so all effective administrators will necessarily be liberal in granting time off for their employees’ personal needs.. this option must be true for maintaing the validity of the Argument..therefore CORRECT

(E) all time off for personal needs is granted by effective administrators
again, Ineffective administrators may also grant time off, however they can be branded ineffective due to other reasons (as explained while analysiong options A & B above)

Hope it helps, friends..!! All the Best..

Hi bro, really thanks for your explanation. I rule out D cuz: in passpage it says “granting time off for PERSONAL needs”, while in D, it uses “granting time off for their EMPLOYEES personal needs”. So I’m not sure whether these two are the same meaning

The context here refers to employees' personal needs...So, both references point to the same aspect..

Hope it helps..
