Other Journals
- have lower editorial standards
- accepts more papers for publication than Mechanical Engineering Quarterly
- A number of engineers interested in publication have been submitting their papers to other journals.
Mechanical Engineering Quarterly
- has
recently experienced diminishing submissions for publication.
- has some of the
highest editorial standards in the industry.
- In order to increase submissions and thus increase the likelihood of publishing interesting findings - board of directors has suggested
radically increasing the number of papers published - It implies, the BoD's of MEW wants to lower the editorial standards to encourage more engineers to submit their papers to them.
However, this suggestion has a serious drawback, because ...
(A) many prominent mechanical engineers submit papers to both journals - doesn't connects/highlights the drawback in BoD's suggestions - incorrect
(B) one reason submissions to Mechanical Engineering Quarterly decreased is that its competitor is more likely to feature papers on machine recessing - explains/gives one reason - why submissions of MEQ decreased but in no way explains the drawback in BoD's suggestions - incorrect
(C) the many engineers who submit to Mechanical Engineering Quarterly for its strict editorial standards will no longer have a reason to do so - Interesting - If engineers who submitted papers to MEW for its high standards are no longer interested then the number of papers published by MEQ may decrease further. Also, most of the engineers who are already sending papers to other journals have no reason to switch to MEQ after its editorial standards have been reduced
Keep the option for now.
(D) at the moment, Mechanical Engineering Quarterly only has print space to publish roughly five percent of the submissions it receives - since no information is given regarding the volume of submissions at present - this option is out of scope
(E) Mechanical Engineering Quarterly’s rival journal would receive far fewer submissions if Mechanical Engineering Quarterly increased its editorial standards - doesn't highlight the drawback in MEQ's BoD's suggestions - incorrect
Answer C
