Pablo’s method of responding to George’s argument is by highlighting the subjective nature of what is considered beneficial. Pablo emphasizes that the decision of what is beneficial should be left to the individual company rather than being mandated by government policy. This approach points out that what is deemed beneficial can vary between entities and should be a matter of personal or corporate choice. Therefore, the correct answer is: B. highlighting a subjectivity

The correct answer is B. highlighting a subjectivity.

Why:
George’s argument assumes that what is “beneficial” for companies is objectively known and can be decided by the government (goodwill from mandatory donations). Pablo responds by pointing out that what is beneficial is subjective—it depends on the company itself, not an external authority. By saying “the decision of what is beneficial for one should be left to one alone,” Pablo challenges the objectivity of George’s assumption.

Why the others don’t fit:

A. drawing a distinction: Pablo is not separating two similar concepts; he’s questioning who decides benefit.

C. establishing an analogy: No comparison to a similar situation is made.

D. deriving a contradiction: Pablo doesn’t show George’s statements contradict each other.

E. giving an alternate definition: Pablo doesn’t redefine “beneficial”; he questions who judges it.

Answer: B
