can anyone explain why not E bb

Option E supports ToppKleen's predicted success by highlighting its unique feature of attacking only dirt, making the material of the object irrelevant. It does not undermine the explanation for ToppKleen's predicted success.

This is an interesting question - a bit weird, but an easy question.

1. The answer I was expecting was something related to the main point - sales success. I did not find anything about sales and was surprised 😮

2. Cleaning of every household the object seems to be of a secondary point but still a part of the argument. Anytime I see sales, I really assume they’re gonna dive into the selling process.

3. Option C is a bit of a niche out of scope option since it talks about plastics. What about wood floors or tile counters or metal objects? Plastics seems to be a niche a subsection and a subset….

4. Option E is the opposite. It strengthens the argument. It cannot be the correct answer. If you picked E, this is a common problem where you solve the question but pick the opposite answer. Make sure you come up with the system that allows you to pick the strength or the weekend. I used to draw an arrow up or down to help me understand strengthen the weaken or undermine And not accidentally picked the opposite.

5. C would be the only answer choice that undermines the argument.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

ToppKleen, a new cleaning material, will soon be released onto the market. The product has a special molecular composition that allows it to clean without the use of water, and with perfect results. ToppKleen will achieve more than satisfactory sales figures because it will be used by consumers to clean every household object.

Which of the following, if true, undermines the explanation for ToppKleen's predicted success?

A. To increase sales, some cleaning product companies use celebrities to market their products.

Incorrect.

To solve this Conclusion Weakening question, first break down the argument. The first two sentences are premises which provide factual data. The last sentence begins with a prediction (conclusion) followed by a reason conjunction (because) which should be followed by a premise. However, it is followed by another prediction which explains the first:

Premise A: Topkleen is a new cleaning product
    +
Premise B: TopKleen cleans without water
    =
Prediction: TopKleen will sell very well...

Explanation: ... BECAUSE people will use it to clean every household object

Possible assumption: TopKleen is capable of cleaning all kinds of materials

    Weakening Data: ?

You are required to find data that weakens the explanation for why TopKleen will sell well. The correct answer could be one that exposes the argument's assumption.

This answer choice neither weakens nor strengthens the explanation for TopKleen's predicted success. The marketing methods of cleaning products companies are entirely beside the point as they do not help us undermine the prediction that TopKleen will be used to clean every household object.

B. Advancements made in the field of molecular science are partly due to the invention of powerful microscopes.

Incorrect.

This answer choice is completely outside the scope of the argument. There is nothing in the argument about microscopes, or molecular science.

C. The specialization of plastics has resulted in household products being produced from a variety of substances, each reacting differently to a certain cleaning material.

This answer choice attacks the argument's assumption that ToppKleen is capable of cleaning every household object. It does so by stating that household objects are made from different materials and will, therefore, react to cleaning materials in different ways. If some objects react negatively, people will not use ToppKleen to clean them.

D. Cleaning materials always contain potent chemicals, and should be kept out of the reach of children.

The fact that cleaning materials are dangerous for children does not mean people don't buy them.

E. ToppKleen is engineered to attack the dirt alone, making the material of the object being cleaned irrelevant to the cleaning process.

Incorrect.

This answer choice strengthens the conclusion by confirming its assumption, but you are required to weaken it. The fact Topkleen can clean any material without attacking it gives us another reason to believe that it will be used to clean every object in the house, thereby validating the explanation.
