This is supported by the info, "may" indicates a probability that the event can happen based on happening of a similar event, "would" would have made the option extreme because we are not given any sufficient condition (If X happens, then Y will happen) in the argument.

E. Amy is not likely to forgive Dorothy for quite a while.
This is extreme, not supported by the given info.

totally agree with you. only D follows the reasoning, other options are either extreme or based on assumptions for which no info is given in the paragraph. so D should be the ans.

This is an Inference Question, so it is made up of premises only; you need to find a conclusion stemming from those premises, or in other words, to take one small step forward and draw a conclusion:


Premise A: Ms. Edmonds does not want children to gossip.

Premise B: Yesterday, when she heard Tom gossip about Jack, Ms. Edmonds explained to Tom why gossip is bad.
