The main difference between D and A and why D is a better answer is that A basically says that lightning has continued even after the rocks have gone away from the atmosphere and hence that is the weakening part of the argument. But if you read the passage carefully, the passage states that the hypothesis is that these rocks TRIGGER lightning strikes, nowhere does it say that the lightning strikes only continue when they are present in the atmosphere. They are simply the TRIGGER event. Hence, A is incorrect.

D says same intensity lightning storms occur in other natural disaster areas where these rocks are not there to trigger the lightning storms. Hence, rocks are not responsible. Therefore, D is a better answer and correct

I think the correct answer is A, as it's the one which is resonating with the passage and not the D.
If D is the correct answer please clarify how.
