Let's look at the argument from Subscription banner's point of view, thinking that he is a person and works at a news company, CNN.

As per SB, CNN (paid news website) subscription security >> Inshorts (Free news website)
On what basis is he claiming this?

Logic: If the product is free, i.e., news is free, then news is not the product, but the consumer is the real product.

And suppose there are 10 free sites; then 6 or more, including Inshorts, harvest readers' browsing data and sell it to marketing firms.

The question is asking to weaken the SB claim—

Now looking at the breakdown of the argument, we can see that there is some missing link. SB is talking about the practice done by most free sites, but he is not saying anything about the paid news. So if we find any information which compares free with paid news websites and creates a doubt on the conclusion, the purpose of weakening is solved.

Let's evaluate the option choice

A. Comparison of consumers who read vs. who don't read and how this can be helpful. Irrelevant.
B. If paid news websites also harvest the data, then how can we conclude that they are more secure? Keep
C. This option shows the positive side of paid news but we can't say anything about security
D. It is a strengthener so eliminate
E. Again, something related to positive effect in relation to security. eliminate

So, B is correct IMO

Subscription Banner: Subscribing to paid news websites is more secure than reading “free” news sites. Remember, if a product is free, the consumer is the real product. Most “free” sites harvest their readers’ browsing data and sell it to marketing firms.

Which of the following, if true, is most damaging to the position espoused by the subscription banner?

A. Consumers who do not read news websites are less likely to be influenced by online marketing than consumers who do read news websites.
B. Paid news websites engage in data harvesting just as often as free news websites do.
C. For locations with poor internet connectivity, paid news websites can guarantee faster loading times and video quality than free news websites can.
D. Subscription to paid news websites includes access to certain digital news services that do not deal with data harvesting in any way.
E. Subscribers to paid news websites can choose what level of access they want to the site and pay accordingly.
