Boil it down:
· We have a problem : we can’t study everyday behavior of whales as they behave in unusual ways near to humans
· Biologists proposed a solution: Use sea lions with cameras on their backs
· Conclusion : This will allow biologists to study the everyday behavior of whales

Logical jump:
· Will whales behave in usual ways or unusual ways near those sea lions carrying cameras?
· Will the sea lions carrying cameras on their backs look natural or look like a robot?

Which one of the following is an assumption on which the biologists' reasoning depends?

Quote:
(A) Whales will often react aggressively in the presence of divers and submarines although aggressive behavior is unusual for whales.
Irrelevant - the biologist’s reasoning is not concerned about aggressive reaction of whales

Quote:
(B) The behavior of the sea lions under human command will be within the range of sea lion behavior to which the whales are accustomed.
Correct – If sea lions carrying cameras appear as a robot/ imposter to whales, then the plan will likely fail

Quote:
(C) The trained sea lions will not be aware that they are carrying video cameras on their backs.
Irrelevant - the biologist’s reasoning is not concerned about awareness of sea lions

Quote:
(D) Sea lions carrying video cameras will be able to film whales at a much closer range than divers can.
Irrelevant - the biologist’s reasoning is not concerned about how closely the sea lions can shoot. It is just concerned about whether the whales will behave normally or unusually in their presence.

Quote:
(E) Whales prefer the presence of sea lions to that of either divers or submarines.
Irrelevant - the biologist’s reasoning is not concerned about preference of whales. It is just concerned about whether the whales will behave normally or unusually in their presence.
