take the proportion of wine in both vessels. proportion of wine in first vessel is 5/8.( 5 parts wine and 3 parts soda, so wine is 5 out of total of 8 parts). similarly proportion of wine in second vessel is 9/14. we have to take a common denominator. find lcm of 8 and 14. lcm of 8 and 14 is 56. now convert proportion of wine in same format. proportion of wine in first vessel is 35/56 and in second it is 36/56.

so now denominators are common so we can compare the strength of wine. its 35 : 36.
