Of the books standing in a row on a shelf, an atlas is the 30th book from the left and the 33rd book from the right. If 2 books to the left of the atlas and 4 books to the right of the atlas are removed from the shelf, how many books will be left on the shelf?

A. 56
B. 57
C. 58
D. 61
E. 63

There are 29 books at the left of 30th book and 32 book at the right of 30th book
so total 29+32 + 1(30th book) = 62-6 (Removing books) = 56
Ans. A
Whether I am correct?
On the shelf, the atlas is the 30th book from the left.

1,2,___________29,[30]
There are 29
to the left
of [atlas]

The atlas is (also) the 33rd book from the right

******************[33],32,31_______________2,1
There are 32
books to the right
of [atlas]

There is 1 atlas.

29 + 32 + 1 = 62 books on the shelf. (2 + 4) = 6 books are removed. How many left? 62 - 6 = 56.

For the number (quantity) of books on the shelf, it doesn't matter from where they are taken. There are 62 books and 6 go away. If we were asked about the new n\(^{th}\) place the atlas held from the left or right side or both, then which side they came from, and how many were taken, would matter.

Answer A

Total books: R - L + 1 = 33 + 30 - 1 = 62

6 books are removed: 62 - 6 = 56

Another way is:
30+33-1(repetition)-6 withdrawn (2 from left+from 4 left)=56

Why adding up the books after the withdrawal doesn't work, please?
I mean, 28+1+29 produces 58, which is apparently a wrong answer choice.

When 2 books to the left of the atlas and 4 books to the right of the atlas are removed, the atlas becomes 28th book from the left and the 29th book from the right. Therefore, there are a total of 28 + 29 - 1 = 56 books after the removal.
